Rest for Backsliders
“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.” Isaiah 30:15
Backsliding may put us back in control of our life, but it is when the Spirit of God brings rest to our heart that we have life. When a person withdraws from practices of prayer and worship of God, they find themselves in spiritual distress. Peace and contentment will elude the one who has wandered away from fellowship with the Lord. There is rest for your soul in repentance and a renewed strength in trusting in the Lord.
If God is putting it on your mind to reconnect with a church you once were part of, or even a new one, do it. Don’t let your backsliding become outright resistance, because you will find spiritual and emotional rest in the Lord.
Let’s pray today that with the power of God’s Spirit we will trust and return to Him again and again.
